Sensitivity is a strength—so says LA based Katie Stump, also known as BLÜ EYES. With a musical pseudonym borne out of light sensitivity (blue eyes being the most affected), and vulnerable, soul-baring lyrics, she is here to encapsulate the tenderness of the human experience. On her forthcoming new EP The Last Songs I’ll Write About You (out May 5 via VERSION III), she blends her signature bedroom pop production with issues of loss, identity and abandonment.   Friends With Benefits (out April 14th) is the third single to be taken from the forthcoming EP, and follows Who I am Without You, and How Dare You.

Expanding on Friends With Benefits, Katie explains “I wrote this song about what it feels like to be used in a friendship. I was best friends with someone for 3 years, and thought they genuinely cared about me as a person, but after an extremely messy friend breakup and a lot of reflection, I realized that their friendship was just a currency they used to buy my time, resources, and energy to serve their ulterior motives. It was not a fun realization, and I hope this song helps anyone in a similar situation feel validated & seen.”

Stump grew up in a musical family and looked to her parents as inspiration, from singing at the dinner table to full ensemble productions for every holiday. After attending the University of Southern California for pop performance, she continued performing and playing in bands throughout her early twenties. In addition to her time on stage, she began to develop her production skills. “I've always had an interest in production, but I only had male role models to look up to,” she says. She bonded over the shared interest with women in her graduating class and began to work on solo music under BLÜ EYES, releasing her first EP healing hurts in 2021.

BLÜ EYES is the cover of Spotify's Created By Women playlist this month in recognition of her writing and producing all of her own music.  Over the past couple of years, she has built up a loyal following on Instagram (117K followers) and TikTok (316K followers / 4.3M likes), and this has made it possible for BLÜ EYES to book the following shows in the UK & Ireland next month:
