A Great Big World speak loud and clear on the new single Say Something featuring Christina Aguilera . The unexpected leftfield hit of the winter in the US has connected with the hearts of the American public, and is set to be unleashed in the UK on February 16th. The single will be followed by the debut album Is Anybody Out There? through RCA/Sony on March 3rd.
Say Something offers a proper gateway into A Great Big World. The song remains a delicate ballad carried by emotional and entrancing vocals and resounding piano chords. It's a proclamation of the New York duo's immense songwriting talent and knack for a universal and unforgettable hook.
Say Something debuted at #1 on Billboard Digital Songs chart with nearly 200,000 sold first week in the US, and has sold over a 2 million copies thus far. The track is topping the charts across Europe as well, and the video has currently received over 29 million views.
Making its television debut on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance (US), the song instantly resonated with audiences everywhere. Immediately after airing, the track climbed up the iTunes Top Singles Chart as listeners identified with its message. It went on to become one of the highest selling-songs this season and had the largest increase in sales of any song following placement on the show. This follows up a bevy of notable placements for the duo, made up of Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino.
A Great Big World performed the song on the Voice (US), at the Victoria Secrets show, and at the American Music Awards.
A Great Big World / Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino met whilst enrolled at NYU, and in discussing the single, Ian reveals, “It’s a very special song to us, and we are thrilled to see how many people have been able to identify with it.” Chad goes on, “We’re also amazed by the response from So You Think You Can Dance. It was truly an honor to hear the song on the show, and we’re beyond grateful for the opportunity.”
On the strength of their 2012 independent EP, which they funded through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, music supervisors for tv first embraced the group’s elegantly crafted and emotionally evocative tunes. The cast of Glee covered their anthem, This Is the New Year in a pivotal show moment. The song has also served as the title track for the movie New Year’s Eve as well as the theme for MTV’s I Used To Be Fat with additional syncs on Amazing Race, One Tree Hill, ESPN, and Good Morning America.
